SPACE PART DEUX

Marci finally posted, shit is picking up, I am very happy about the shit that goes on on this blog. I am so stuck on space, though, I had to have another post of shit that I left out, and some new shit as well, well, new for me. I got some updates as well, so let's start with that.

Cellgraft/Drainland split
Cellgraft, again raise the bar with todays grindcore. This time its a split, but the other side fo it is not out yet, or wasn't at the time that I downloaded this. That might ahve changed, the cover is also awesome, if you want it, go to their blog, you can get all of their shit for free.

As you can guess, mean sounding frantic, odd timed grindcore, this time sounding crispy clean, and the guitars seem to still bring the filth, its like laminated dirt. Shit is fucking awesome, starts out with a doomish track, goes on for 2 and a half (!!) minutes, which by Cellgraft standards is their first demo tape, and then some. Blastbeats galore.

Praia De Vomito

They have been on here before, they had a split with Melanocetus Murrayi and Noituus, if you remember that one. They play noisegrind, or raw grind, I guess, the trax are sort of written, but kept loose, which you guys probably already know that I love, with an exteremely depressive political message, its ghetto grind, I guess, their shit on that split was so good I had to look into what they were up to. Of course, they split up. On their blog, youu can find all of their shit up for grabs. Awesome artwork as well, which is all included. Their split with Melanocetus Murrayi is included as the 1. 984 EP.

Now back to the void......

Great spacy noise shit. Two masters of the genre kicking each others ass. Haven't listened to it in a while, but now that I've busted it out again, I have to say, the Bastard Noise side wins by just an inch.

This is a solar, spaced out drone album, one of those goes-nice-with-a-spliff types. The cover is amazing, I might get it tatooed, not cuz of the music, but because it looks so awesome. This is pretty much the soundtrack to holding your breath because you something just so beautiful. Its fun, downers need to be taken to listen to the whole thing though, like I cannot just chill for this long. Lethargic to say the least.

Awesome spacy death/grind from Malta. They started out with the pretensious long winded, but still pointless typical gorey death/grind shit lyrics. I guess after smoking enough weed and playing enough shows, they wrote a concept album about some virulent plant like things taking over the earth and killing humanity. The best track on here is the second and the sixth, in my opinion, but all the songs have tons of blast beats, insane, unmemorizable amounts of riffage, nice gruff vocals, and a super clean production, which to me takes away a little bit from the over all thing, but it sounds nice. The studio guy/sound engineer mus ahve worked his ass off, and I appreciate that, even though I think it was for naught. Also, this has the coolest cover ever, ti was my desktop wallpaper for like 3 years.

This is supposed to be woodsy and medieval sounding, but to me it screams space noise. Somewhere on the sidelines between ambient and noise, it has an annoying, harsh sort of droning, while remaining just barely below the level thats harsh enough to be noise. Really weird, sort of like the Vodka Soap stuff posted earlier.

So d.h.i.b.a.c are supposed to be grindcore from outer space, which is why I posted this, but to me, they just plain suck. Sorry, gotta keep it real. The only reason I am posting this is because the Saywhy guys have helped us out a million times, their side rules, and I have been waiting to post something of theirs finally, these guys play like fastcore/grind/pv. Totally unique, totally insane, really fucking fast paced, live shows are off the chain as well. Really artsy guys, but you couldn't tell from this band, except that it's executed flawlessly.

Really weird, japanese noisy shit, I dunno what to call this, really bizarre shit, kinda noise rock-ish, I guess, but spacy and alien that much is for sure. I don't know what to make of it, tis still new for me, so many things happening, so many people screaming, and so much just weird shit, it blew my little mind. Some blastbeats would have made this record 100% better, though. Lot's of changes in dynamic sound quality and volume, which a lot of noise is lacking nowadays, which I think it's really cool though.

Wormed

Been meaning to post this. Alien death/grind, the people playing it, I have a hard time believeing that they are humans. Their odl drummer, who sadly quit, but is on these recordings, is the grand master of freaky death/grind, with ghost notes, cool fills and rolls, awesome, super fast blast beats, etc...The vocals are inhuman. Not made by people. At all. Nothing in it is human at all. Awesome song structures, hardly anything is played twice, but if something comes back, it is meant to. On top of all of that its catchy and memorable in an absolute way. The Planeispharum album is better than the EP, but both fucking rule. They have a new album out, or it's in production, I know they recorded it already. Another major obsession of mine.

For the first time since I started this blog, you will get to know that I fucking love speed/power metal, but only the old filthy kind. None of this Dragonforce fucking bullshit, only old, fucked up, nasty, childish fantasies of like knights, and mad max and shit like that. This band is like that, except they sing about aliens and conspiracy theories, which is awesome, with a voice so high pitched it can raise the dead and bring them out to mosh, or headbang, as the case may be. Drums are fucking fast for the genre, the double bass parts would be fairly hard to play, if it got down to it. The guitar work, of course, is the stand out, millions of solos and all that shit. This is the only album I like by them, if you are interested in anything else by them, you will have an easy time finding them, super prolific band.

Big thanks to Ben Bontempo of DAD and a million noise projects for hooking me up with this CD, it was a parting gift, and I have held it in ultra high esteem since then. It is creepy, I swore I wouldn't post it, because it's fucking creepy. Power electronics shit mixed with some guy singing in his bathtub, drunk, alone and possibly contemplating suicide. The CD is said to be the "dark side of karaoke", and there are moments when I hear it and I think, truly, this is the armpit of humanity, the underbelly of all of those nights you went out and had a good time. All those things you wanted to forget are on this CD, in noise format. It's similar to the UFO Or Die shit, in the sense that there are many different types of volume, and texture or whatever on here, it changes, like listening to many recordings, all of them super fucked up. Old rip, so it's in AAC format. Convert it. It's worth it.

Next post we are gonna get right back into the thick of it,w ith only grindcore for a good while, too much weird shit, but I just had to do it. Until then, take care of yourselves, it's a crazy world out there.

UPDATES+DEMISOR+RANT+CLASSICS= THIS POST

So there is gonna be a rant in this one, just to tell you. But first, I am waaay too excited to do that, and I must tell you about updates. The first is that not only is Blunts and Blasts back, but the guy who deos it, Lord Kramdar, besides being of Hungarian origin, which is the coolest coincidence ever, has a new band! Does this mean Epileptic Fit bit the dust? Yes, sadly it does. However, his new band, which he does not have a drummer (for all of you cleaveland grind freaks need to get in touch with this man NOW), aside from the drum machine fucking rules. It's called Thought Rapist and you can check em out HERE. I think its his one man, anyhow, fucking awesome stuff, includes a Dahmer cover, which more of you need to do. Also, no vocals, except on the covers.
Also.....

Those of you familiar with USA grindcore, or this blog, or both will know what this picture means. Cellgraft are fucking back. They did this album a while ago, but I am a total space cadet, and did not pick it up until now. They have a split in the works (probably out by now...), and I just cannot wait. Y'all know how nerdy I get with this type of shit, obsessive and what not. At first I did not like it as much as the other two, cuz the snare is not annoying sounding enough, like on the other releases (I love annoying high pitch snare, I might post about that next. Or more tape rips), but quiet normal like. But once you get behind it, man, this is such an awesome release, I like it more and more every time I give it a go. Less rolls then on the previous one, but still a ton. In comparisson, this one makes the previous one seem a little bit overdone in that department, seeing as how form fitted the drumming is to the guitars, and how awesome this one is. My mp3 player cannot handle it, cuz its mp4, so it has become my official coming home and getting high music.

Also in the updates section is some Hungarian stuff, as I really like the things that are happening in this part of the world right now, and some things I got at a show a while ago. First up is the picture you see above you. This band is solid as fuck crust, no blast beats, but sometimes the drummer busts out the fastcore tempo, which is fun. They are a lot like Disrupt musically, but with the vocals and the atmosphere being much closer to the Swedes than anything. The first track is basically some acoustic guitars and shit, thats pretty whack. The intros are real hitters for me as well, some of them in Hungarian. The singer hooked it up, who used to play drums in Human Error, the band I now play in, so he is my predecessor. He has like a million other awesome bands, including Gyalázat and Freedom Is A Lie, where he brings some of the most solid d-beats and blasts in the country. Really well written shit on here as well, could be faster though.

Do You Think I Care? Demo 2010

You know what else fucking slays totally and absolutely? Remember that Alea Iacta Est shit I threw your way in the early days of this blog? Delete that shit. They just hit me up with a promo, and it blows fucking 80% of grind today out the fucking water. This band got a lot better, and thats saying a lot, as they fucking ruled before hand as well, but get a hold of em now. Faster, same drumming style with the fastcore tempo met with triplet out of control Czech style blastbeats, the vocals are raspy as fuck and really, really traditional, but in the best of ways, and the riffing is awesome as well. They are like the next Ulcerrhoea. They fucking own, and good folks as well, although their singer likes to promote these gigs, with these college kids and their whack ass pop music. But I won't hold it against him. It's a living.

Harvester. What can I really say about this band? They have been around for quiet a bit now, we share a front man, who is absolutely insane, they play grind n roll for metalheads, they are metalheads, drink more than a port full of Irish dockworkers, and their live shows are entertaining as fuck, although I haven't seen them play in like 2 years, so why dont I shut the fuck up and talk about the CD? It's called 'We Are The Nottenbohm Case', I am not sure what a Nottenbohm case is, although the singer explained it to me, but as it happens when I meet this guy, we were drunk, and I can't remember what it means. Perhaps one of you smart ass guys can elaborate in the comments. As always, they bring the stonerish stuff in it as all hell, its pretty slow for a grindcore band, which they swear they are not, the music is full of weird shit as well. The sound is fairly clean, the lyrics are fucking crazy. Metalled out guitar stuff, primitive and tight drumming, you get the idea.

The next CD I picked up at a gig. It is some Lithuanian thrash called GFT, and their live set was good, but the drummer could not hold the fast parts. Not dissing, just calling it like I see it. It is thrash that is exclusively about drinking, living your life and skateboarding, as well as, surprise, surprise, smoking weed. If you are into that sort of thrash, real typical like, then you will dig this, it is a good example of the genre. The sound is grimy as fuck, the bass is louder then the guitar, which I love, the drums sound like cardboard, which I also love. The vocals are real honest like, just loud nasal speaking, with a fucking funny accent. You hear the voice, and you feel like you know the guy. Pretty mediocre in many respects, but Ima throw it on here, it has its moments.

Also got that hot new shit from Cogs and Sprockets. By new, I mean they already sold all of the physical copies. But they hook it up with an e-booklet, and a sick cover on this one. Man, this band is also firmly lodged within my heart, for a number of reasons. The songs are never over half a minute long, although they have gotten demonstrably longer than the last thing I heard from him, the sound is always grimy as fuck, the song titles kick ass. They moved away from their older sound, which had an annoyingly high snare, rehearsal room sound and Discordance Axis-esue riffage. Now the riffs are more, I dunno, traditional grind, but still really fucking innovative and awesome, also, no more annoying snare sound. I hope this does not turn into a trend, I love annoying snares. Each song has a picture instead of lyrics as a song title, and they speak louder than fucking words. Also, just one guy. Insanity. How do fuck do you have time to learn to play all of these instruments that well and also like, sleep and eat and shit? The theme on this one seems to be homeless folks, the one I put up earlier seemed to be blindness. I refer to theme loosely here, of course. If i would give points, I would give ten out of ten, but fuck that.

Cogs And Sprockets- Arms For The Poor

So you know how sometimes I throw a bunch of shit from one band up here? If you don't happen to know Demisor, then this is your lucky day. This is not BY FAR a complete discography, its the stuff I have and like from these guys. They are from Singapore, and you can feel the grime as only South East Asian bands can make you feel it. Faster than what can be played, sloppy, but somehow still fuckin tight. I go nuts for this kind of grind, and we are seriously thinking of touring in the South of Asia. Every album is a little different, some of them are really, really, metaled out, I could talk about each one of them for a while, but instead of that, let me sum it up: lots of funny intros of Asian pop music, solid as fuck playing, blastbeats, d-beats, the high vocals are really typical of this sort of music, the low vocals sound a little like the guy from Autoritar. Got most of this shit off of KTGA! Awesome grindcore band, bit of crust, bit of hardcore, bit of metal towards the end there, always awesome though.

Now its time for me to go on a rant. I haven't done it in a while, but some shit pissed me of so bad, that I must do this now.

GENT FUCKING SUCKS!!!!! I was blissfully unaware of this genre until last weekend, when my old guitarist and I got together at his house, and he put this shit on. Man, of all the worthless, time wasting, listless, lifeless pieces of shit out there, this genre has to take the cake. If you are still one of those unaware of this genres existence, take Meshuggah, mix it up with everything that sucks that has happened in the past 10 years in music, throw it in a blender, add a bunch of nonesense and fake ass "emotion", and there you have it. The only thing to say about it is that it is really technical, and difficult to memorize the riffs.
Come on. Thats it? I bring you Biolich, a band that broke up a few years back, but who were really technical and difficult riffage, blah blah blah, but guess what? Their riffs actually went somewhere, and it was not a fucking chorus of castratis pouring the pitiful contents of their inflated hearts into your ears.

Enough of that. Biolich fucking ruled, when I lived in NYC they played like every weekend or so, along with Corpemesis and Internal Bleeding. Their guitarist must have been like 16 or some shit, their frontman was this cannonball of a guy, easily 120 kilos and 160 cm, and the drummer was like a jazz guy who was obsessed with death/grind, at least judging from the sound and the licks, he fucking owned so hard it was unbelievable. The music is utterly unique, its death/grind in a way, but with these soulful, almost emoed out riffs in there, the vocals are like the sickest gutturals, few get even near this guy. The songs are all fucked up, man, opens some new horizons in music.
I personally prefer the promo, cuz I had it when it came out, its my own rip of the damn thing, must have heard it like 10000 times at least. I thought about making a post just about the promo, but who wants to hear me get sentimental? It ain't pretty.

The "album" is also good, similar songs, but the old ones were better, for me, at least, but these guys cant make bad shit. My advice is to listen to the grimy, rehearsal-esue promo first, and then go for the album. It so so good, man, orgasmic.

I leave you with a classic. Regurgitate at their absolute best. Grudge fucking rule as well, both are the reason why grind is awesome. Grimy, filthy, fucked up, utter explosion of hate, X2. Also, Ima end it with a call for help. If you have anything else from Grudge, hook it up, you see me doing my thing as well. I will put it up on here for everyone to hear. The obscurity is killing me, I have spent years trying to get more shit from them, and I have found that it exists, but no one has it, man. So please, hook that shit up.

Free Shit MEGAPOST!!!!!!!!!

Marci was gonna make a post about Mercenary Cockroach, who are an Insect Warfare rip off. I am glad that these much heralded times have finally arrived, and we can see Insect Warfare rip off bands. I might make one called Ant Battle, or something equally preposterous. I am going to go ahead and post a bunch of shit that is free on the internets, as well as been given to my little hands for free, this year, and I feel like posting it. Let us begin.

.

This band is from Florida, and they carry on the wonderful tradition of bands who play super short, super depressive, weird grindcore, that plays within and without the bounds of the genre, at the same time. So going form a syncopated beat to a blast beat, but doing some weird, weird shit in between. They are one fo the best things to happen to grind ever. Yes, that good. Best recent band for sure, best American band since Insect Warfare. All their shit is up for free on their blog.

I had the decency to put it all into one of our mediafire links though. This is their self titled demo, which fucking rules, has everything you need, ton of songs, 10 minutes, its a fucking grind orgasm of fast, short pissed off shit. Then their 'Revenge' dmeo, which is 4 songs, 1:40 time wise, really good shit, bit gored out, in terms of song titles, bit more straight forward, in terms of grind. And their new shit, which is absolutely amazing, althought he recording is real annoying like, takes itme to get used to it, but i love the way it sounds now. That one is called 'External Habitation' and is not to be fucked with. Destroy your life for satan.

.

This is the demo of a hungarian band called Dance Or Die!!, who are first class chaps, all in all, although they have weird social problems, and are a bit akward. Their music hits like asack of bricks, its fastcore with some melodic overtones, the drummer guy hits that fastcore tempo, which is arguably not a blastbeat, and they absolutely slay live. I do not have a physical copy of their stuff, but Marci was kind enough to hook me up with their shit. Bit melodic in places, and the demo does not do justice to their superb live act.
But I will upload it anyway.

.

This next demo is Dakhma from the Czech Republic, and I am sorry to say that the best thing about this piece of music is the layout. It is a 3 inch CD, put inside of a red envelope, with lyrics, and the cover is just super glued to the face of the envelope. It is overall pretty good, if you like neocrust, which I, personally, do not. There are exceptions, but on the whole, melody kills music, and these guys bust out melodies left and right. The only reason I am posting them at all is because the melodies are wicked disonant, and are done up in true black metal fashion. There are blast beats, too, not the quickest thing I ever heard, but still alright.
Melodic bullshit.

.

This next one sucks, in my opinion, however Marci seems to like it, and I got it for free. Its a split between Nothing, who are kind of alright, except for the shitty lyrics about liking people, and Libido Wins, who I cannot say anything good about. They are probably nice folks, the songtitles belie a lot of brain power, which I am sympathetic to, but the music is fucking weak shit. Nothing are good, solid hardcore played semi-fast, but not too quick, and definitely take the cake. NO blastbeats, so this should not even be on here.
But it is.

.

Next one is the legitimate CD of a death metal band who do their shit DIY, and their singer and frontman, Balint is a hardcore guy, so these folks have a really good attitude. Pretty soon, shows will comence, so you should come and visit Hungary while there is still something left of it. The blastbeats are iNcantation tempo, lots of thrashing, really good vocals, sick ass growls, that are so low, but still traditional growls, this is sweet. 9 tracks, its like the album was made in 94, except the sound quality is waaaay too polished for my filthy ears.
Urguluburgulu.
.
Next up is the Hungarina band Grow Up Fuck It Up, who play a mix of thrash and power violence. Their drummer lent me his tom and some of his stands, for which I am incredibly greatful, and this is their demo, also procured from Marci. These guys, some or all of them are straight edge, they are big, ointimidating and are pissed off on stage, and make fun of you, which I always like. After the show you feel dumb, and are full of anxiety. I think that is something that a lot of bands are missing, this aspect of intimidation and that this music, its not about you feeling good, its about misanthropy, its about problems, its about venting the problems you have. The demo is good, sounds too polished again, more noise, and this would be a favorite.
.
Next up is Atmoski Rat from Belgrade, Serbia. I got their shit when we played their town, and they opened, and they sounded like aFinnish band form the 80s, which is a good thing, in my opinion. No blastbeats, not much to say, short, fast, d-beat filled absolutely rules.
.
This next band is PFA from Hungary, and how they rule. Ten points in my book, their stage performance lacks balls, but they like it that way, and so do I. The CD sounds good, its fastcore, its actually fast, the lyrics are awesome, they are about the town they are from, the problems they got, posing in the hardcore scene, friendship, shit that this music should be about. The artwork is also awesome, but I will not share it with you. I took pictures of all of this crap, but I just refuse to put it up, cuz it does not look good. Deal with it.
.
Paskuda are a band from Slovakia, and the last time we played with them, which was too long ago, they gave me their awesome CD-R for free. For some reason they like my crapy band, they know some of the tracks as well, which is awesome, and now, I know some of theirs. Their singer sounds like a rodent of sorts, super high pitched, the snare sounds like a metal pot being banged on, which is a sound I actually enjoy a great deal. The guitar stuff in it is also good, a lot like Destroy!, but somewhat faster, they do play crust after all, and they do it superbly well. It involves blastbeats, too many intros, and a sick, sick sound. Studioish, but not that bad, actually. Loudest thng on here is the snare, which is always good for the worshiping of the blastbeats.
.
And last but not least, the guys who occupy the tip of my heart, some Turkish guys who have 1 million bands, and counting (Circuits Made Flesh, Never Reach Home, You Name It I Hate It, Lost In Bazaar, and a ton of other ones), and this is their best one, that still exists. This one is called Ultimate Blowup, and this is their two CD-Rs that I actually own, they have more stuff out, all of their stuff is super lo-fi, its power violence, but it is just done so well, with so much cretaivity form all of the guys, and they are such massive, massive potheads, you must love them, just for who they are. But their band(s) absolutely rule, so love them for that too.
