How We Get Down At Shows

So, I went to an awesome show the other day in Csepel, and a few things occured to me about going to shows, about playing shows, about seeing live music, and yes, about live music in general, particularly the "counter cultural" live music we love, propagate and promote on this blog. First of all, why the fuck do people come to shows to "stand around and smoke cigarettes"? What is the fucking point, leave your fucking shoe gazing at the shoe gaze concerts. I am not saying everybody HAS to mosh, but at least let me see that you are in to it, that you are enjoying yourselves. I hate it when motherfuckers come down to gigs, and they either stand there and feel angsty, or stand around judging shit, instead of getting into what is happening, and for what they bought their fucking tickets for. At this show there was none of that, and it was great. And the past few shows there have been none of that, while Budapest used to be the fucking king of kids standing around, looking at their shoe laces.

Also, I hate it when i get funny looks for moshing, and I especially hate it when i dance or wiggle around, keeping it to myself, knowing folks do not wanna mosh, and kids are staring at me. Man, fuck you. Again, if you are in a situation like that, stop caring if folks are making fun of you, or the faces you are making, or the way in which you move or whatever. Fuck um, they just some haters, man. When inhibitions and fucking social manipulation get in the way of your having fun, that is sad, and it sucks, but if that is already happening to you, please, do not spread the cancer on some folks who might actualy get down. As someone who has played quiet a few gigs, I know it fucking sucks BALLS to see motherfuckers standing around. If the band cannot see that at least someone is interested in what they are doing, they will not play their best either. Keep that in mind.

The next link is a post of some of the Napalm Death bootlegs that my singer, Gabika hooked me up with, my absolute respect goes out to him for it. These three are a pre-Scum era gig in Birmingham, where they hideously suck ass, a rehearsal tape of FETO era material, as well as another British gig, lots of songs, this one was in Portsmouth in 1988. Enjoy.

OTHER PEOPLE'S SHIT:

This next one is the split between Impetigo and Transgressor, an american grind/thrash/gore whatever else band and a Japanese old school death/thrash metal band. Impetigo I think is one of the most unique bands out there, and only kids into gore listen to them, I do not know why, cuz they fucking rule, absolutely atmospheric music in so many ways, just has it's own feel to it, it is its own genre in a way. The album smells musty and dank, spreading disease and groove, it is really really good. BUT the best thing about it is not what is on it musically, but in between songs, he is making fun of his audience. The next time you are at a show and are hating on someone, or looking at them funny like, or you wanna mosh but are too pent up or self conscious, just think of this mans words, and you will fuck shit up.

2nd GBN Post

To follow up the GBN post, i wanted to post some of their early EPs, when they still actually played gore. Be forewarned, it is drum machine driven, which i utterly despise, yet for them, somehow, it works. And by utterly despise, I mean just that, I am a drummer, I hate the way drum machines sound and feel. But the recording quality on “I Recommend You…Amputation” is just so fucking raw and awesome and grimy, that it covers up the fact pretty well. So here you are, 2 EPs, “I Recommend You…Amputation!” and “An EP You Want”, both still gored out pretty fully.

The next link is to GBN’s noise shit. They have a split with Merzbow, as well as a 3 way split between them, Nikudorei, and the extremely weak ass band Arsedestroyer. GBN rip it up really, really harsh like as usual, the Merzbow shit is amazing harsh noise, on both sides, while on the 3 way, they play more in the vein of their splits, but much more noise influenced, feed back, total distortion, samples, etc. Really good, in my humble opinion. The Nikudorei track is also the coolest shit, it has this subtle creepy vibe to it, even though it is absolutely just harsh noise. Oh, and let me make it clear, the 3 way is not mine, but I got it off of Cephalochromoscope, one of the best blogs around. Ever.

Enjoy, and just so you know, this isn’t even a fraction f their discography. I just figure no one likes them (I have never met anyone who does, except this one guy), so this will be enough for novelty purposes. Worship satan.

Escape routes

“Escapism is mental diversion by means of entertainment or recreation, as an "escape" from the perceived unpleasant or banal aspects of daily life.”

This is the definition of escapism, as it stands on wikipedia. Routes of escape from monotony and control, without which we would all go insane. These are the little breaks and breaches in the system that make life bearable. The spliff at the end of the day, the odd hour of playing your favorite video game, the Friday night you don’t remember from getting absolutely wasted. There are ways to maximize the time you spend escaping form reality, and make it a habit, yes indeed, to spend as much time as possible educating yourself at your leisure, relaxing outside of institutionalization, that is to say, illegally, or legally, but in a way that is looked down upon. Every time you are in one of these situations, every time you escape, you are committing if something that they just cannot ban, then something that is considered immoral, antisocial, geeky, nerdy, in one word, marginalized. Escapism can be very productive, and is a means to create outside of the system. Take the tape distro that is associated with this blog, and is run by my esteemed partner, marci. It is just a waste of time, really, its an escape, making tapes, 20-30 of them at a time, he does not make any money off of it, he does not do anything grand or gigantic for the hardcore scene, he is not overthrowing governments, but what he is doing, is using his time for himself, to do shit that he feels like fucking doing, and using his creative skills in doing so. Every time I rehearse, or get high, or do the necessary preparations for doing so, I am engaging actively in escapism. This tape distro, this blog, my bands, my addiction to cannabis, are all escape routes.

The escape from structured music is noise. Noise can be categorized in many different ways, and in many different ways can one achieve making noise. However, in my opinion, the best is when grind is so harsh, so raw and so filthy, that it is basically noise. This genre is called noise-grind or raw grind. Whatever. I remember the first band I heard that did this, they were the mighty Gore Beyond Necropsy. I got a bunch of their stuff form Edwin at the Underground Collection, back when you could still trade him CD-Rs, before that somehow stopped. After that it was instantly love.

This link is to 4 of their splits, the one with Disgorge (Aus), who suck really hard, the one with Senseless Apocalypse, who are a japanese power violence- grind band, and who also happent o be one of my favorites of all time, ever. And also, the classic split with Regurgitate and with Warsore. If you do not know who those two bands are, lurk more. GBN do it big on all of these ones, especially the last two. The Rgte sid eof their split sounds like white noise, almost. It is full of reverb, and the guitar is basically just static. GBN have a really unique, filth encrusted, short noise attacks, full of feedback, lots of low end, very deep growls, sounds harsh and crazy, with intros that are not too long, and are noot your typical intros. They are also fun. Just good grindcore, some of it is improvised, or sounds like it. A böngészője lehet, hogy nem képes ezt a képet megjeleníteni.
