Today is Larry Niven day, when we celebrate the greatest surviving member of the golden age of american science fiction. He has turned 72 years of age today. So smoke some weed and read or watch some sci-fi, in hopes of bettering yourself and your community, just as Larry Niven would want you to.
To celebrate this glorious occasion, I present you my entire e-library of Niven's work. It contains the Beowulf saga, which is the greatest thing ever written by man, to this day, as well as his more famous story, the Ringworld chronicles, I think thats all the books in the series, like 17 or so. Also included are some of his many short stories, as well as his satyrical work, The Flight Of The Horse.

The next link is to GBN’s noise shit. They have a split with Merzbow, as well as a 3 way split between them, Nikudorei, and the extremely weak ass band Arsedestroyer. GBN rip it up really, really harsh like as usual, the Merzbow shit is amazing harsh noise, on both sides, while on the 3 way, they play more in the vein of their splits, but much more noise influenced, feed back, total distortion, samples, etc. Really good, in my humble opinion. The Nikudorei track is also the coolest shit, it has this subtle creepy vibe to it, even though it is absolutely just harsh noise. Oh, and let me make it clear, the 3 way is not mine, but I got it off of Cephalochromoscope, one of the best blogs around. Ever.
Enjoy, and just so you know, this isn’t even a fraction f their discography. I just figure no one likes them (I have never met anyone who does, except this one guy), so this will be enough for novelty purposes. Worship satan.

I was listening to the tape, laying in bed, I remember I was sick and had a fucking bad hangover, and all of the sudden a harsh and high scream yelled from my tapedeck ’YO FASCIST...’ . It was Fascist Trend/Bald Head from Hatemail Killerz. I was amazed by this band, and I still am, its so harsh, fast, tight, just what I love. Ok, I’m starting to bitch too much about how I live my life, so its better if I just give you the link, and shut my mouth. http://www.mediafire.com/?yw2rzzmwdxj
“Escapism is mental diversion by means of entertainment or recreation, as an "escape" from the perceived unpleasant or banal aspects of daily life.”
This is the definition of escapism, as it stands on wikipedia. Routes of escape from monotony and control, without which we would all go insane. These are the little breaks and breaches in the system that make life bearable. The spliff at the end of the day, the odd hour of playing your favorite video game, the Friday night you don’t remember from getting absolutely wasted. There are ways to maximize the time you spend escaping form reality, and make it a habit, yes indeed, to spend as much time as possible educating yourself at your leisure, relaxing outside of institutionalization, that is to say, illegally, or legally, but in a way that is looked down upon. Every time you are in one of these situations, every time you escape, you are committing if something that they just cannot ban, then something that is considered immoral, antisocial, geeky, nerdy, in one word, marginalized. Escapism can be very productive, and is a means to create outside of the system. Take the tape distro that is associated with this blog, and is run by my esteemed partner, marci. It is just a waste of time, really, its an escape, making tapes, 20-30 of them at a time, he does not make any money off of it, he does not do anything grand or gigantic for the hardcore scene, he is not overthrowing governments, but what he is doing, is using his time for himself, to do shit that he feels like fucking doing, and using his creative skills in doing so. Every time I rehearse, or get high, or do the necessary preparations for doing so, I am engaging actively in escapism. This tape distro, this blog, my bands, my addiction to cannabis, are all escape routes.
The escape from structured music is noise. Noise can be categorized in many different ways, and in many different ways can one achieve making noise. However, in my opinion, the best is when grind is so harsh, so raw and so filthy, that it is basically noise. This genre is called noise-grind or raw grind. Whatever. I remember the first band I heard that did this, they were the mighty Gore Beyond Necropsy. I got a bunch of their stuff form Edwin at the Underground Collection, back when you could still trade him CD-Rs, before that somehow stopped. After that it was instantly love.
This link is to 4 of their splits, the one with Disgorge (Aus), who suck really hard, the one with Senseless Apocalypse, who are a japanese power violence- grind band, and who also happent o be one of my favorites of all time, ever. And also, the classic split with Regurgitate and with Warsore. If you do not know who those two bands are, lurk more. GBN do it big on all of these ones, especially the last two. The Rgte sid eof their split sounds like white noise, almost. It is full of reverb, and the guitar is basically just static. GBN have a really unique, filth encrusted, short noise attacks, full of feedback, lots of low end, very deep growls, sounds harsh and crazy, with intros that are not too long, and are noot your typical intros. They are also fun. Just good grindcore, some of it is improvised, or sounds like it.
And the tracks are in AAC format. If you dont like it, convert it.

Western culture has become such that people have invisible walls around them. These are walls that are there because we do not understand each other anymore. The reason we do not understand each other is because we have all been trained to focus on specific tasks, and do specific jobs. But none of us (or hardly any of us, me not included) are able to live independently of our masters, and our providers. We have become juvenile. We have become unskilled. Most folks cant build houses, grow food, raise cattle, provide vegetables, survive in any condition that is not created for them. We have lost the ability to create our own environment, that aspect which is so typically human, and the aspect of us that got us this far in the food chain. Without our providers, our facilitators, we are royally fucked.
Knowledge has become shameful. If you know have information about any topic at all, you are a nerd, and people look down on you for having knowledge of a subject, if it is outside the realm of consumption, or consumer goods (cars, clothes, beer, etc). how the hell did this happen?
The answer is living in a consumer society and bieng subjected to industrial capitalism. We are being built into a society where we each have our task, that we have been trained for, and nothing outside of that. We are alienated from our communities, not knowing them, relying on our television for information about our surroundings. We are each becoming a piece of the puzzle, unable to live without being a part of the whole, and that whole is being controlled by the people we make stuff for, who then resell to us at a ridiclous price, a global elite. We are made helpless, because they do not teach you the skills necessary for life in your schools, whilst home schooling is made impossible by the law, unless you are a Christian and properly embrace the ideological factors of the system.
We become fragmented beings, we are alone in crowds, our days chopped up into pieces of work and television, the family has become a status symbol, and not a necessary gathering for survival, or a positive community and learning experience, and so we go to “sub-cultures” to try and get out of totally being controlled. That’s what this blog is about, too. To show you some of the shit in these sub-cultures, who, while do not have the power to change the system as it stands, but do have the ability to subvert it and make an alternate reality alongside the one where capital is destroying your life. I play/ have played drums in several crust and grindcore bands, as well as death metal bands. That is why I will focus on blastbeats, since thats pretty much the only sound of liberation I can imagine. I do not believe in freedom, but I do believe that there are ways to live life in which you are not as part of a giant machine split into modicums of micro consuming organisms.
That being said, here is the grind.
Maggut are form Japan, this is their first demo. They play gore grind, not my favorite genre, but they play it well. No mid tempo chug-chugs, no pig squeals, just vocal distortion, d-beats and slow end blast beats, a totally watery toilet bowl sound, short and to the point songs. Like early regurgitate, except Japanese.
Konfident are a crust-punk band from the Czech republic. This tape, I am not sure what it is called, I got it from Ultima Ratio guy, in Czech, nice looking tape, too. There are blast beats, although not as much as I would like, mostly fast punk and some decent crust, lyrics are in Czech so I have no idea what they are about. The blast beats are a good tempo, sloppily played, more about just conveying the power and pissed offness than to really get teched out. That’s a good capturing of what blast beats are about. An explosion of pissed. The riffs are desperate and gloomy, sometimes switching into jus straight punk.
